Ramon Espada:
Ramon got his start in boxing at the tender age of 7. Coming from a family of pugilists, he would learn the sweet science initially from his grandfather who fought as a pro in Mexico. He completed and honed his skills with his uncle at the gym of the legendary Tony Zale until the age of 13. After taking a break from boxing until the age of 19, Ramon joined the U.S. Airforce. He then went on to box for the Airforce as a junior middleweight. He competed and won in 20 bouts during his four year tour. During those four years, he fought in Japan and Korea and was a member of the All Force team. In 1994, he stopped competing to pursue an education in college. Upon the completion of his education in 1998 he returned to boxing as a trainer. Working as an assistant under George Hernandez of Garfield Park in Chicago, he helped train amateurs and professional fighters. While at the gym, he was part of a successful team that had more than it's fair share of Golden Gloves champions who would eventually move on to the professional ranks. Ramon is extremely passionate about the sweet science. He considers himself a student of the game as well as a teacher. "He who dares to teach must never cease to learn." Studying the all-time greats is a sure road to success. |
